Digital Portfolios
At High Tech High all students have a Digital Portfolio (DP) where they publish the work and projects they have done during their time at HTH. The goal is for the students to keep their DP's and use it as their online resumes. Below we have put a few projects to show some student work from HTH, but if you would like to explore more and check out some DPs click here.

Into the Wild Humanities + Math/Physics
In the spring semester students read the book "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer. After finishing the novel, they spent four weeks reflecting on it and the role nature plays in our society. In math/physics they build their own camping equipment and the project culminated with a trip to Anza Borrego State Park, where they utilized their equipment and documented their experience. The entire process (Preparation, Experience, and Reflection) is documented in beautiful handmade journals.

Internship
All High Tech High juniors are required to complete an internship in an organization, business or company of their own choice. The internship consists of an orientation followed by a four week, full-time immersion at the work site, concluding with the intern’s presentation of learning. Students receive credit for successfully completing their internship and related course work.
At their internship, each student is paired with a workplace mentor who understands and supports the goals of the program. Mentors communicate regularly with a HTH Teacher Advisor about student progress, attendance, and project development. In addition, all interns develop a substantial project(s) with the mentor that contributes to the organization.

Art is a Political Act
Leading up to the 2012 election, students did a project that in art and US government class. The students paired up and picked a candidate running for office in their area, and researched their political platforms, chose a policy that spoke to the students, and represented what this politician stood for. Another part of the research was to figure out how much funding the candidates had and where their money came from. For example, Super PAC or individual funders. This information was then put into a painting of the candidate, that showed the platforms and funding of the politician. The students tried to incorporate the candidates' political beliefs or platforms in the portrait and illustrated the funding underneath.

Senior project
The senior project was inspired by the internship project that all the juniors/11th graders have to do each year. After the month of January all of the teachers see that the 11th graders are more matured and can handle more responsibility. A senior teacher ,Will Haase, saw this and wanted the 12th graders to go through this again, as to go more in-depth with the career choice/path we are passionate about. Because of this we had students in all areas. Whether it was on a farm, a school, or working with homeless youth. The students had the freedom to choose what they wanted to do for the month of May, with in reason of course. After the month of May the students have to put together a presentation of what they did during the month. It could be anything, ranging from posters to documentaries.
Below, we have our student made documentary of our Canada trip.
